What Happened
On August 10, a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, with its epicenter located near San José del Palmar in the department of Chocó. Occurring at an intermediate depth of roughly 110 kilometers, the tremors caused widespread destruction, heavily impacting regions across Chocó, the Coffee Region, and surrounding departments.
The disaster has left thousands injured, homes and critical infrastructure destroyed, and many communities in urgent need of emergency search and rescue, medical personnel, clean water, and shelter.
